There is a moment at every wedding reception when guests walk up to the table and look for their names. It lasts about four seconds. Most couples spend that moment on a folded piece of cardstock that goes straight into the trash before dessert.
Agate slice place cards turn those four seconds into something guests actually remember, and then let them carry it home in a pocket.
What Are Agate Slice Place Cards?
An agate slice is a thin cut of natural banded stone, polished so the layers of color show through. Each one is formed underground over an unimaginable stretch of time, which means no two are identical.
We source authentic grade A agate slices, then hand calligraph each guest's name across the stone in a modern script. The result is a place card that looks like a small piece of jewelry sitting on the table.
Ours are oblong slices, roughly 2.5 to 3.5 inches long, which is the sweet spot: large enough to read from standing height, small enough to slip into a purse at the end of the night.
Why Agate Escort Cards Beat Paper Every Time
They do double duty as your favor
This is the practical argument, and it is a strong one. Most couples budget for place cards and favors. Agate escort cards collapse those two line items into one. Your guests find their seat, and they leave with a keepsake that has their name written on it in calligraphy.
No more boring wedding favors. Let your place settings take their place.
Guests actually keep them
A personalized stone ends up on a nightstand, a desk, a bookshelf. Cardstock ends up in a bin. Years later, someone still has the little agate with their name on it from your wedding, and they still remember whose wedding it was.
They photograph beautifully
Your photographer is going to shoot your tablescape. Deep blues, emeralds, amethyst purples, and hot pinks against white linen give those detail shots something to hold on to. Geode wedding decor has stayed in style precisely because it looks so good on camera.
They work with almost any color palette
Because agate comes in such a range, you can match a moody navy wedding, a soft sage garden ceremony, or a jewel-toned winter reception. If you do not see the color you want in the listing, message us. Other colors are often available.
Hand calligraphy, not a printer
Every name is written by hand in a modern script. That difference shows up close, where it counts, and it is the reason these read as elevated rather than crafty.
Not Just for Weddings
Stone place cards work anywhere people need to find a seat and you want the detail to land:
Weddings and rehearsal dinners
Milestone birthdays and anniversary parties
Graduation dinners
Corporate events, galas, and award dinners
Bridal and baby showers
Tea parties and holiday tables
Proms and formals
Any tablescape that deserves better than folded cardstock
One recent customer used them for a rehearsal dinner of twenty. Another ordered them as the centerpiece detail of her wedding day. They scale from an intimate dinner party to a full reception.

Simply Lettered Shop is an Etsy Star Seller, which means consistent five-star reviews, on-time shipping, and quick replies to messages. When you are counting on a detail to arrive before a date that cannot move, that track record matters.
Please Order at Least Three Weeks Ahead
This is the one thing we ask of every couple and event planner.
Each order has to be sourced, written, and shipped. The agate slices come from a supplier, then every single name is hand lettered, then the finished stones are carefully packed and mailed to you. Three weeks before your event is the safe minimum, and more is better, especially during peak wedding season.
If your date is tighter than that, message us before ordering. Rush work is sometimes possible, and we would rather tell you honestly than have you cut it close.
Already Have Your Own Agate Slices?
Some couples buy their stones in bulk or already have a set they love. If that is you, you can send your agates directly to us and we will do the calligraphy. Just message us before ordering so we can walk you through it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do agate slice place cards cost? They start at $4.99 per stone, which includes both the agate slice and the hand calligraphy. Klarna installments are available at checkout on Etsy.
What size are the agate slices? Oblong slices approximately 2.5 to 3.5 inches in length. Every slice is natural, so shape and banding vary from stone to stone.
Can I get a color that is not listed? Often, yes. Send a message with the color you have in mind and we will let you know what we can source.
Can I use them as escort cards instead of place cards? Absolutely. Many couples lay them out alphabetically on an entry table with the table number written beneath the name, which is exactly how the photos in the listing are styled.
How far in advance should I order? At least three weeks before your event. Earlier is always safer.
Give Your Guests Something Worth Keeping
The details people remember from a wedding are rarely the expensive ones. They are the small, thoughtful, unexpected ones, and this is exactly that kind of detail.
Make your next event one that leaves guests talking, and send them home with their name written in calligraphy on a stone that took a few million years to form.
