There is something about a fragrance that already feels deeply personal. It's the scent that lingers on a pillowcase, the one that instantly transports you back to a moment, a person, a day you never want to forget. So when a couple asked me to engrave their wedding fragrances — his and hers — with lyrics from their favorite song, I knew I was holding something that would outlast the flowers, the favors, and maybe even the wedding album.
That's the thing about engraved perfume and cologne bottles. They start as something already meaningful, and then we make them unforgettable.
What Makes an Engraved Fragrance Different
You've seen personalized gifts before. Monogrammed tote bags. Custom cutting boards. Name-stamped everything. And while those gifts are lovely, they have a short shelf life once the excitement wears off.
A beautifully engraved fragrance bottle is different. It lives on a vanity, a dresser, a bathroom counter. It gets picked up every single day. Every spritz is a reminder — of the date, the lyrics, the name, the words that meant something on one of the most important days of a life. That kind of staying power is rare in a gift.
When I engrave a perfume or cologne bottle, I'm working directly on the glass — freehand, with no vinyl cutouts or stickers involved. Every stroke of lettering and every floral detail is drawn by hand, which means your bottle is truly one of a kind. No two are exactly alike, just like the people who receive them.
The Bride and Groom Set: A Perfectly Matched Pair
One of my absolute favorite commissions is creating a his and hers fragrance set. There's something so romantic about a matching pair — one for the bride, one for the groom — each with their own lyrics, their own words, but connected by a shared design.
I recently completed a set that perfectly captures what this kind of gift can be. The bride's bottle, a delicate clear glass perfume, was engraved with the words: "Cause Down the Shore, Everything's Alright." The groom's dark cologne bottle carried the lyric: "When You're in Love with a Jersey Girl." Both bottles were adorned with hand-engraved roses, diamonds, and their wedding date — a design thread that tied the pair together even as each bottle stood beautifully on its own.
The couple had chosen lyrics that told their story. And now, every time those bottles are on the counter together, that story is told again without a single word being spoken.
What You Can Put On a Bottle
This is the part where couples often get a little wide-eyed, because the possibilities are wider than you'd expect. Here are some of the most meaningful options I've engraved:
Song lyrics — a shared favorite, a first dance song, or the song that was playing when they met. Bonus points if the lyrics are a little unexpected (see: Jersey Girl).
Vow excerpts or love quotes — short lines that carry enormous weight in just a few words.
Names, roles, and dates — Bride, 9.30.23 is simple and timeless. It needs nothing else.
Florals and decorative artwork — roses, botanicals, geometric designs, or custom motifs that match the wedding aesthetic. These can stand alone or frame the lettering.
A short personal message — something only the two of them would understand. Those are my favorite.
Beyond the Wedding Day
Bride and groom sets get a lot of attention, but engraved fragrances are a gorgeous gift for so many occasions beyond the big day:
A luxury gift for the mother of the bride or groom (one of my most requested commissions)
A bridesmaid or groomsmen gift for the people standing beside you
Anniversary gifts — especially milestone years
Valentine's Day or birthday gifts for the person who already has everything
Corporate gifting for luxury brand events and activations
If you've ever wanted to give someone a gift that truly stops them in their tracks, an engraved fragrance is it.
A Note on the Process
Each bottle I engrave is worked on by hand, one at a time. There is no rush, no assembly line, no shortcuts. The curved glass surface requires patience and precision — you're working on a three-dimensional canvas that doesn't sit still. That's why I always recommend reaching out as early as possible when you have an event coming up. Custom engraved fragrance bottles are available both as studio commissions (you send me the bottle) and as part of on-site events where I engrave live for your guests.
If you can dream it up, there's a very good chance I can letter it.
