Hey friends! I have been holding onto a secret for a little while now and I am genuinely bursting at the seams trying to keep it together. Something really exciting is unfolding over at Simply Lettered Studio right now and I want you to be the first to know when the full reveal drops. Head over there and keep your eyes on what is coming. I promise it is going to be worth the wait.
But while I have you here on the shop side, I want to make sure you know about everything that is available for you right now because there is genuinely so much and I am proud of every single thing we carry. We have kits on sale at some of the best prices we have ever offered, a full collection of pens and pen holders that I use in my own studio every single day, pencils that have been earning a permanent spot on my desk lately, and a lot of really wonderful supplies in between.
I am Cheyenne Tucker. Utah-based calligrapher, certified penmanship instructor, IAMPETH member, former kindergarten teacher, homeschool mom to four adventurous boys, and the person behind both Simply Lettered Studio and Simply Lettered Shop. I started learning calligraphy in 2016 after I left my full-time teaching career to stay home when my first son was born. I was used to being busy, so a few months into staying home I picked up a pointed pen, dipped it in ink, and that was it. I was completely hooked. What started as a creative outlet grew into a business, a curriculum, a shop, and a community of people who believe, like I do, that words never lose their value, especially when they are written by hand.
Everything in this shop has been hand-selected. If it is here, it is because I have used it, tested it, or fallen completely in love with it. I do not carry things I would not personally recommend. So when I tell you these pens and kits are worth your attention, I genuinely mean it.
Let me walk you through everything.
Letter Writing Kits Currently on Sale at Simply Lettered Shop: Fan Favorites at Their Lowest Prices
These kits have been some of the most loved things in the shop and a few of them are on sale right now at prices that will not last. If something has been in your cart, now is the time.
The Wax Seal Kit is on sale for $20, down from $25. I cannot tell you how many times I have recommended this kit to someone who is just starting their snail mail journey or looking for the perfect gift for a letter writer. Everything you need to start sealing your envelopes and cards with beautiful, vintage-inspired wax seals is right here in one box. Wax seals transform an ordinary envelope into something that makes the recipient stop what they are doing before they even open it. They feel special because they are special. This kit has been a consistent bestseller and for good reason. Grab it at this price while you can.
The DIY Pressed Floral Card Making Kit is on sale for $20, down from $22.39. This one is for the person who loves a slow, creative afternoon. You press real florals, arrange them by hand, and create handmade cards that could not have come from a store. There is something deeply satisfying about making a card from start to finish and then putting your own handwriting on it. It is a whole experience from beginning to end and it makes a gift that genuinely cannot be replicated. Whether you are making these for yourself or gifting the kit to someone who loves crafting, this is a beautiful one.
The Letters of Love kit is on sale for $30, down from $58.99. This is the kit I am most proud of curating because it is the full luxury letter writing experience in one gorgeous box. Inside you will find a prompt card to help you find your words, a rubber stamp, two red vellum envelopes, two scalloped note cards, one handmade cotton paper card with a matching envelope, three blush letterpress note cards, two watercolor cards, two plantable seed paper hearts that your recipient can literally grow, red chiffon ribbon, pink cord, a rose petal wax seal assortment, vintage key embellishments, a Pentel black sign pen, a Burgundy Gelly Roll metallic pen, and a Stabilo 68. It is a letter writing kit that asks nothing of you except to sit down and write something real to someone you love. At $30 it is one of the best deals in the shop right now and a gift that will genuinely be kept forever.
The Vintage Parchment and Feather Pen Writing Set at $18.99 is for the old soul in your life, or honestly just for yourself if you have ever read a Jane Austen novel and wished you could write like that. Inside this set you will find a sheet of authentic parchment paper, a genuine feather quill, a small glass jar, and premium ink crystals that you dissolve into liquid ink yourself. You are mixing your own ink and writing with a real quill on real parchment. That is the kind of experience that connects you to the craft in a way nothing else does. This is one of the most unique and unexpectedly wonderful things in the shop.
The Handmade Papermaking Kit at $78 is the one for the maker who wants to go all the way. This kit walks you through the process of making your own paper from scratch using traditional techniques. The paper you end up with is genuinely yours, made by your own hands, and there is nothing quite like writing a letter on paper you created yourself. This is an extraordinary gift idea and an equally extraordinary way to spend an afternoon.
The Desktop Letterpress Letter Writing Set at $98 is a complete desktop letterpress experience for the stationery lover in your life who already has everything. Beautiful, intentional, and the kind of purchase that completely changes how someone thinks about writing a letter. Letters made on a letterpress feel like heirlooms before they are even folded and sealed. This is one of the most elevated things in the shop.
Oblique Pen Holders for Pointed Pen Calligraphy: Which One Is Right for You and Where to Start
Now let us really get into the pens and pen holders because this is where I could genuinely spend hours. As a pointed pen calligrapher who has been practicing since 2016 and studying under master penmen as an IAMPETH member, I have strong opinions about tools. Everything we carry in the Pens and Pencils collection is there because it has earned its place.
For anyone who is new to calligraphy, let me explain what an oblique pen holder is and why it matters. Traditional pointed pen calligraphy, the style used in copperplate and Spencerian scripts, requires an angled nib position to create the thick downstrokes and thin hairlines that make those styles so iconic. An oblique holder has a flange, which is a metal piece that holds the nib at the correct angle without you having to strain your wrist. It makes the process more comfortable and more consistent. A straight holder works for italic and some other styles where the nib goes in straight. Having the right holder for the right style of calligraphy genuinely changes the experience.
The Moblique 2 in 1 Pen Holder for Calligraphy Nibs at $10.99 is the one I point most beginners toward first and for good reason. This holder works both as an oblique holder for pointed pen calligraphy AND as a straight holder for monoline nibs and everyday lettering. You do not have to buy two separate holders when you are starting out. One holder, two configurations, and it feels balanced and comfortable in the hand. The nib sits securely and writes smoothly from the first stroke. If you are just getting started with calligraphy and you want one tool that will cover you for most styles you might want to try, start here.
The Moblique Version 2 2 in 1 Pen Holder for Calligraphy Nibs at $13.99 is the upgraded version of the above with a sleek matte black finish that feels more premium in the hand. The functionality is the same but everything about the aesthetic is elevated. If you have already used the original Moblique and you want to step up, or if you just prefer a darker, more minimal look to your tools, this is the move. It writes beautifully and looks gorgeous in any flat lay.
The Moblique AL Limoncello is currently on sale for $20, down from $35. This is the aluminum oblique pen holder and it is honestly one of the most beautiful tools in the shop. The gold finish is warm and rich and it catches light in the most gorgeous way. Aluminum holders have a satisfying weight to them that feels deliberate and substantial when you write, and this one delivers that experience fully. If you have been looking for an oblique holder that doubles as something you would genuinely want on display on your desk, this is it. At $20 this is an exceptional deal and I would grab it before it goes back up.
The Manuscript 2 in 1 Pen Holder at $8.99 is the most budget-friendly option in the collection and a great choice for anyone who wants to try pointed pen calligraphy without spending much upfront. It is also a good pick if you are buying supplies for a student or a child who is just beginning to explore calligraphy. It gets the job done well and at this price you can try it without any hesitation.
The MoRing for Moblique at $9.90 is not a pen holder on its own but a beautiful accessory for your existing Moblique holder. It is a rose gold eternity-style ring that slides right onto the barrel of any Moblique pen holder and does two things: it gives you a slightly better grip point when you are writing for long sessions, and it makes your holder look absolutely stunning. It is one of those small additions that makes you unreasonably happy every time you look at your desk. Great gift idea and a fun little upgrade if you already have a Moblique.
The Best Calligraphy and Lettering Pens for Journaling, Hand Lettering, Brush Lettering, and Creative Writing
Not every pen lover is here for pointed pen calligraphy. Some of you love brush lettering. Some of you love journaling with a great gel pen. Some of you are looking for the perfect writing pen for your everyday correspondence or cursive practice. We have something for all of that.
The Sparkle Pop Pentel Pens at $2.85 each are the iridescent gel ink pens that I cannot stop recommending to literally everyone. They come in eight stunning colors: Black Red, Blue Green, Green Blue, Orange Yellow, Pink Pink, Violet Blue, Gold, and Silver. The ink is a smooth, sparkling gel that flows beautifully with the 1.0mm bold tip and catches the light with an iridescent shimmer that is just endlessly satisfying to look at. The Gold and Silver colors on dark paper are especially striking, perfect for addressing dark envelopes, adding detail to art journal pages, or writing anything you want to stand out in a completely gorgeous way. At $2.85 each there is no reason to try just one. Get a few. Get all eight. You will reach for them constantly.
The Pitt Artist Brush Pen at $15.75 is a brush lettering staple and one I have used since the early days of my calligraphy journey. The flexible brush tip responds to pressure the same way a real brush does, giving you beautiful variation between thin upstrokes and bold, swelling downstrokes. It is an excellent tool for modern brush lettering, for adding gestural flourishes to your work, for illustration, and for anyone who wants to start exploring brush-based lettering styles before investing in ink and dip pens. The ink is India ink, which is waterproof and archival, so what you write will last. This is a pen that rewards practice and gets more enjoyable the more you use it.
The Inkwell Erasable Fountain Pen at $16 is one of the most exciting recent additions to the shop and genuinely one of my favorite finds lately. It is a real fountain pen with a proper nib and smooth fountain pen ink flow, but the ink is completely erasable. It comes in several fun colors including black, teal, and pink, and every pen arrives with 4 blue erasable ink cartridges included. For anyone who loves the way a fountain pen feels and writes but gets nervous about the permanence of fountain pen ink, this is the answer. It is also a wonderful tool for cursive practice because you can write, erase, and improve without going through reams of paper. It writes smoothly right out of the box and the erasability works really well.
The Inkwell Fountain Pen Refill at $5.99 is the pack of 10 blue erasable ink cartridges that goes with the pen above. Once you go through the 4 included cartridges you are going to want more, so I would grab a refill pack at the same time you grab the pen. It is a very easy add to the cart and saves you from running out mid-practice session.
The Best Pencils for Calligraphy Practice, Art Journaling, Sketching, and Everyday Creative Writing
I have always loved a great pencil almost as much as a great pen. There is something about the physical act of putting graphite or color on a page that feels different from ink, more forgiving, more exploratory, and sometimes exactly what a creative session calls for. These are the pencils that have been earning permanent spots on my desk and I think you are going to love them too.
The Moblique Infinity Pencil starting from $16.99 is unlike any pencil you have probably used before. Instead of a traditional wood and graphite construction, it uses a refillable graphite core system, which means it never gets shorter and you never sharpen it down to nothing. You replace the core when it runs out and the pencil barrel itself lasts essentially forever. It comes in a range of beautiful barrel colors and it has a weight and balance to it that feels really premium in your hand. I reach for mine constantly for practice sketching, layout work, and any project where I want to work through ideas in pencil before committing in ink. This is the kind of pencil that becomes a permanent part of your creative toolkit.
The Look Sharp Compressed Graphite Pencil at $13 is the pencil for anyone who loves rich, dark, smooth graphite. Compressed graphite has a higher graphite-to-clay ratio than standard pencil lead, which means it lays down more pigment per stroke, produces darker, more saturated lines, and glides across the page with almost no resistance. It is wonderful for sketching, shading, life drawing, practice work where you want bold clear marks, and journaling where you want your writing to really show up on the page. It comes in a gorgeous slim barrel that feels elegant to hold. If you have never tried a compressed graphite pencil before, this is a great first one.
The Metallic Colored Pencils Black Edition Faber Castell at $9.50 are genuinely some of the most beautiful pencils I have ever encountered. Faber Castell is one of the most trusted names in artist pencils and this edition takes their quality and wraps it in a completely stunning presentation. The barrel is sleek matte black and the pigment is metallic and shimmer-based, so what you lay down on the page catches light and glows in a way standard colored pencils simply cannot do. They apply smoothly and blend beautifully and the color payoff on both light and dark paper is outstanding. These are a real treat and at $9.50 they are an absolute steal for what you get.
The Big Mechanical Pencil at $12 is exactly what it sounds like and in the best way. A chunky, satisfying mechanical pencil with a comfortable barrel that gives you a lot of real estate to hold onto. If you have ever felt like standard mechanical pencils are a little too thin and slippery to hold comfortably for extended writing sessions, this is the answer. The bigger barrel gives you a more relaxed grip, less hand fatigue, and a writing experience that just feels better over time. Great for everyday writing, notes, journaling, and anyone who simply prefers a more substantial pencil in their hand.
The Big Colored Mechanical Pencil at $12 brings all the same chunky satisfying goodness as the pencil above but in a range of fun colors so you can match your mood or your aesthetic. Whether you want your pencil to coordinate with your journal, your desk setup, or just make you smile when you reach for it, this is a great option. They also make excellent gifts for kids, students, and anyone who loves a little color in their creative life.
Why the Right Tools Make All the Difference in Your Calligraphy and Handwriting Practice
I want to take a moment here because I think it is worth saying. When I was first learning calligraphy, I spent a lot of time with the wrong tools and did not understand why my writing was not improving the way I expected. The pen holder was not quite right. The nib was too stiff. The paper was too rough and caught the nib. The ink was too thick. Every one of those variables affects the outcome and when they are off, it is genuinely hard to know if the problem is you or the tools.
The reason I put so much care into what we carry in the shop is because I have been that person struggling with the wrong tools. Every product here has been vetted. Every pen holder has been tested. Every pencil has been used. My goal with this shop has always been to make it easier for you to find the right tools for where you are in your journey, whether you are just starting out with calligraphy or you have been practicing for years and you are ready to add something new.
Good tools do not replace practice. But they make practice so much more enjoyable and that makes you so much more likely to sit down and do it. That is the whole point.
