There are events I set up for, do my work, and pack up — and then there are events that stay with me long after I've driven home. My time at High West Distillery was absolutely the latter.
Getting to be the on-site engraving artist for a High West corporate event was one of those full-circle moments in my career. The setting — rustic, warm, distinctly Western — felt like it was built for this kind of work. And getting to put my lettering on iconic High West bottles and glassware, one name at a time, surrounded by guests who were genuinely delighted by every piece they received? That's exactly why I do what I do.
The Setup: Bourbon, Gin, and a Lot of Bottles
When I arrived, the tables were lined with rows of High West Bourbon and High West Mountain Gin bottles waiting to be transformed. Seeing dozens of those beautiful bottles lined up together — light streaming through the window, catching the amber tones of the whiskey — was honestly a sight. Every single one of those was about to become someone's personalized keepsake. That kind of responsibility never gets old.
The event featured two distinct pieces for guests: engraved whiskey glasses with the High West brand logo and a personalized name in flowing cursive script, and personalized bottles with names engraved directly onto the glass. Both pieces combined the bold, recognizable High West branding with something far more personal — the guest's own name, in handwriting that would be there forever.
The Work: Name by Name, Piece by Piece
Live engraving at corporate events is one of my favorite things to do, and I think it's because of the human element. Every name I engrave belongs to a real person standing somewhere in that room. When someone comes up to receive their bottle or their glass and sees their name etched into it — in real, flowing cursive — the reaction is always immediate and always genuine. Eyes light up. Photos get taken. People hold it up to the light to see how the frosted lettering catches it.
At High West, I was engraving everything from bourbon glasses with the HW logo and a guest name below it, to the vibrant cobalt blue Mountain Gin bottles with names written in a soft, elegant script that played beautifully against the bottle's texture. Each piece was different. Each one took focus. And each one became something that guest was going to take home and keep.
That's the thing about engraving that sets it apart from a print favor or a branded gift bag — it cannot be replicated, mass-produced, or swapped out. It's permanent, it's personal, and it's made specifically for the person holding it.
Why Live Engraving Works So Well for Corporate Events
I'm a little biased, obviously — but I truly believe that live, on-site engraving is one of the most memorable experiential elements a brand can offer at a corporate event or activation. Here's why it works:
It gives guests something to watch. There's something almost hypnotic about watching someone engrave a name in real time. People gather around, they watch, they ask questions. It becomes a conversation piece before the piece is even finished.
It creates an immediate connection to the brand. When a guest leaves with a High West bottle or glass that has their name on it, they're not just leaving with a company gift — they're leaving with a story. "I was there, and they made this for me." That's brand loyalty you can't buy in an ad.
It's something no one throws away. I've done a lot of events, and the feedback I consistently hear is that guests still have the piece months or even years later. You keep something with your name engraved on it. You just do.
Working with a Brand Like High West
High West is one of those brands that already has so much character and visual identity built in — the Western aesthetic, the Park City roots, the craft distillery soul. Getting to add handwritten, personalized lettering to their bottles and glassware felt like a natural extension of everything they already stand for. Craft. Detail. Something made with care.
It was an honor to bring my work into their space and to be trusted with their product and their guests. Events like this one are exactly what Simply Lettered Studio was built for.
